I'm a serial entrepreneur. Many years ago, I founded a dotcom business during the Dotcom boom which was worth many millions. We were well on our way to untold success and bang ... the Dotcom crash happened. It didn't matter if we had the Lamborghini of websites, in an oil crisis they're unsellable. I learnt a lot from the experience and have applied those learnings through the last 15 years of my career and others that I have helped during that time.
Over the past few years, I'd been mulling over many ideas to get back on the dotcom bandwagon. How to combine my passions with my work, and how to get away from the daily grind of 9-5. My nickname for this "mental" project was "Making Time". I even joked for months with Mark about how we need to set up a company called Making Time.
Well, the concept of Making Time has turned into the reality of the Break Free Club. The intention was to bring the skills we've learned through the years in Project Management and Project Delivery and make them accessible in price, availability and understanding to the masses. Essentially, we both believe in karma and paying it forward, so we developed the tagline "Train it Forward".
Generally, accredited Project Management training courses are woeful and definitely do not prepare the student with the real world skills and thinking required to actively deliver projects. After having built and run many teams and multi-$m programs, we are gurus in the area of delivery, have real world practical skills and tips and tricks and have a proven very successful track record.
In the following few months the thinking behind Break Free Club was then extended to encompass many more skillsets - not just project delivery but also to include other technical domains as well as many other business skills. We call these domains Communities, and will be building them up over time.
The journey to launch has been somewhat slower than expected, as family life and the reality of launching a new business takes its hold. These are all good topics for discussion over time in this blog, and lessons and learnings will be articulated in the appropriate communities.
We started with idea back in 2016 and locked in the IP and assets. We established a clear strategy which is being executed, the website is now built and as of today the Beta is ready to roll. The First community is in the process of being built, and will be available for Members to subscribe in the next couple of months.
Our next steps are to complete the first community, start promoting Break Free Club through referrals and online through social media and other means, and start to define and build the next communities.
Break Free Club is about sharing, networking and engaging for yourself and the greater community, to break free from whatever is holding you back. Feel free to tell all your friends about it - the bigger the community gets, the better the outcome for everyone.
